Nice to see the New York Times collapsing under the weight of their pathetic liberalism and the complete abandonment of neutrality, and just another piece of proof that Americans on the whole are sick and tired of the leftward lurch of the news industry and are pulling their billions of dollars away from these rags forcing an industry wide collapse.

"NEW YORK (AP) - New York Times Co. says its second-quarter earnings fell 82 percent from the year-ago quarter boosted by a one-time gain. Meanwhile, print advertising revenue continued to shrink.
The New York-based newspaper publisher says its quarterly net income dropped to $21.1 million, or 15 cents per share, which included 11 cents per share in buyout costs.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected income of 22 cents per share in the latest quarter. Analyst estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenue dropped 6 percent to $741.9 million, missing the average Wall Street estimate for $754 million. Ad revenue slipped down 11 percent, hurt mostly by fewer classified ads.

1st LT. Frank B. Walkup, IV 23 years old from Woodbury, Tennessee 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division June 16, 2007 Toni already has a great post up on her site, so I'll just link to it.
Here's the full Obituary from the Mursfreebury Post following his untimely death in Iraq in this past June:
Funeral arrangements are still incomplete for Riverdale High School 2001 graduate Frank B. Walkup IV who died Saturday in Iraq when he was on patrol searching for insurgents and stopped a suspicious convoy, said his father, Frank Walkup III of Woodbury.
Woodbury Funeral Home is handling arrangements which will probably be held the 4th of July with a service at the funeral home, a small memorial service at Woodbury United Methodist Church and burial at Riverside Cemetery in Woodbury.
Walkup was a platoon leader in the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry.
"He's a hero," his father said. "He did this well knowing what the consequences will be."
Walkup is survived by his wife, Sabita, father, stepmother, Mitzi, and eight brothers and sisters who live in Woodbury and his mother, Melissa Oaks of Memphis.
Walkup grew up as "military brat" and began wearing the Army uniform in ninth grade. He was a cadet in the ROTC program at Riverdale. After graduation, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he participated in ROTC. He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant after graduation in 2005.
In the Army, Walkup was promoted to 1st lieutenant. He completed air assault school, airborne school and ranger school, making him ranger qualified. He was deployed to Iraq 10 months ago where he served as platoon leader. His tour was extended until October. He planned to make the military his career.
Walkup came from a long-term military family.
"We're very proud of him," the elder Walkup said. "He served very honorably."
At Riverdale, Walkup was a good student who academically scored in the top percentage of his class.
"He never got into any trouble," his father said. ""He was somebody his peers looked up to. He didn't bend to their wishes. He never did drugs and had no problems with the law."
Walkup had a happy attitude who didn't let hardship affect him.
"He had that winning attitude," his father said. "He tried to be a good leader."
His family lived in south Murfreesboro and attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church. They relocated to Woodbury and now attend Woodbury United Methodist Church.
Walkup said the Cannon County community, including his church and his children's baseball teams, has been so supportive since learning about his son's death.
These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero. We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

SAN FRANCISCO /: "07-21) 19:05 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Authorities couldn't fully explain Monday how an alleged gang member and suspected illegal immigrant was able walk out of jail in San Francisco - three months before police say he shot and killed a father and two sons.
Edwin Ramos, 21, appeared in court Monday on charges stemming from the June 22 slayings of Anthony Bologna and his sons Michael and Matthew. Police say the three were shot near their home in the Excelsior district when Anthony Bologna, driving home from a family picnic, briefly blocked the gunman's car from completing a left turn down a narrow street.
Ramos is scheduled to enter a plea in the case on Wednesday.
The Chronicle reported on Sunday how Ramos, a native of El Salvador, was repeatedly shielded as a juvenile from deportation by city officials who failed to notify federal authorities of separate assault and attempted robberies he committed when he was 17.

He was arrested on March 30 when police stopped his car in the Tenderloin and a passenger in the car tried to dispose of a handgun. After three days in jail, Ramos was released. Police learned that the weapon tied to his passenger had been used in a double murder the day before. JULY 21--Apparently desperate to distance himself from any affiliation with law enforcement, the rapper Rick Ross has recently denounced as fake photos purporting to show him in a former career as a Florida prison guard. But Department of Corrections (DoC) records show that Ross, whose raps detail the Miami gangster lifestyle and his supposed days trafficking cocaine, did, in fact, work as a correctional officer for 18 months. Ross (real name: William Leonard Roberts) was appointed a prison guard in December 1995 at a salary of $22,913.54, according to the below personnel record, which was provided to TSG by Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a DoC spokesperson.to that of the jail guard.
According to the official document, Ross was earning $25,794.34 when he left the department in June 1997. After graduating from the DoC training academy, Ross was assigned to the South Florida Reception Center in Dade County (the lockup is one of three statewide that serves as an intake facility for new prisoners). Batman actor Christian Bale arrested over assault allegation
- Telegraph: "Bale, 34, attended a police station after it was reported his mother and sister had reported him to police.
The alleged incident was believed to have taken place on Sunday night at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel where Bale is staying.
His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the allegation, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan Police.

AS he took command in Iraq in January 2007, Gen. David Petraeus called the situation 'hard' but not 'hopeless.' Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80 percent to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation is full of hope - but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains.
Progress has been due mainly to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Sen. Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent.
'I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,' he said on Jan. 10, 2007. 'In fact, I think it will do the reverse.'
Now Sen. Obama has been forced to acknowledge that "our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence." But he still denies that any political progress has resulted. Perhaps he's unaware that the US embassy in Baghdad has recently certified that, as one news article put it, "Iraq has met all but three of 18 original benchmarks set by Congress last year to measure security, political and economic progress."
Even more heartening has been progress that's not measured by the benchmarks:
* More than 90,000 Iraqis, many of them Sunnis who once fought against the government, have signed up as Sons of Iraq to fight against the terrorists.
* Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has found the will to crack down on Shiite extremists in Basra and Sadr City - dispelling suspicions that he's merely a sectarian leader.
The surge's success hasn't changed Sen. Obama's determination to pull out all of our combat troops. All that has changed is his rationale.
In a New York Times op-ed and a speech last week he offered his "plan for Iraq" (in advance of his first "fact-finding" trip to Iraq in more than three years): It consisted of the same old proposal to pull all of our troops out within 16 months.
In 2007, he wanted to withdraw because he thought the war was lost. If we'd taken his advice, the war would have been lost. Now he wants to withdraw because he thinks Iraqis no longer need our assistance.
To make this point, he mangles the evidence. He makes it sound as if Maliki has endorsed his timetable - when the Iraqi prime minister has merely said that he'd like a plan for the eventual withdrawal of US troops at some unspecified future point.
Sen. Obama is also misleading on the readiness of the Iraqi military. Iraq's army will be equipped and trained by the middle of next year - but that doesn't mean, as Sen. Obama suggests, that it'll then be ready to secure the country without a good deal of help.
The Iraqi air force, for one, still lags behind, and no modern army can operate without air cover. The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications and other complex functions needed to support frontline troops.
No one favors a permanent US presence, as Sen. Obama charges. We've already seen a partial withdrawal with the departure of five "surge" brigades, and more can take place as the security situation improves.
As we draw down in Iraq, we can beef up our presence on other battlefields (such as Afghanistan) without fear of leaving a failed state behind. I've said that I expect to welcome home most of our troops from Iraq by the end of my first term in office, in 2013.
But I've also said that any draw-downs must be based on a realistic assessment of conditions on the ground - not on an artificial timetable crafted for domestic political reasons. This is the crux of my disagreement with Sen. Obama.
Sen. Obama has said that he'd consult our commanders on the ground and Iraqi leaders, but he did no such thing before releasing his "plan for Iraq." Perhaps that's because he doesn't want to hear what they have to say.
During the course of eight visits to Iraq, I've heard many times from our troops what Major Gen. Jeffrey Hammond (commander of Coalition forces in Baghdad) recently said: Leaving based on a timetable would be "very dangerous."
The danger is that extremists supported by al Qaeda and Iran could stage a comeback, as they have in the past when we've had too few troops in Iraq.
Sen. Obama seems to have learned nothing from recent history. Indeed, he's emulating the worst mistake of the Bush administration by waving the "Mission Accomplished" banner prematurely.
I'm dismayed that he never talks about winning the war - only of ending it. But if we don't win the war, our enemies will - and a triumph for the terrorists would be a disaster for us.
As president, I won't let that happen. Instead, I'll continue implementing a proven counterinsurgency strategy not only in Iraq but also in Afghanistan with the goal of creating stable, secure, self-sustaining democratic allies.
New York Needs To Put A Clamp On This Proposal and Now. This Imam who was a meterial witness in the first trade center bombings is planning on plastering New York Subway cars with Islamic Propaganda of all things coming this Fall.

An Islamic group plans to blitz 1,000 subway cars with advertisements this September in a campaign being promoted by a Brooklyn imam whom federal officials have linked to a plot to blow up city landmarks.
The group says its mission is to explain the true nature of Islam to non-Muslims who believe the religion is bent on acts of violence - but Siraj Wahhaj, the inflammatory imam who appears in a promotional YouTube video for the project, has defended convicted bomb-plotters and called the FBI and CIA the 'real terrorists.'
US Attorney Mary Jo White even named Wahhaj one of 170 unindicted co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the thwarted plan to blow up a slew of buildings.

The stark, black-and-white ads of the Subway Project promote Islam with the goals of clearing up long-held misconceptions about the faith and reaching out to those interested in becoming Muslim, according to the Islamic Circle of North America, the group behind the campaign."
Timed to run during the month of Ramadan, the ads come in pairs, reading "Q: Prophet Muhammad?" or "Q: Islam?" and the corresponding answer is always "A: You deserve to know."
Those interested in knowing more are directed to call (877) WHY-ISLAM or to visit whyislam.org, which provide literature that teaches and proselytizes about the faith. The group insists it is not looking to transform subway cars into the "G-had train." "Anyone who looks at this ad objectively can see that it is not preaching anything," Azeem Khan, the group's assistant secretary general, told The Post. "There is a lot of Islamaphobia out there. We provide people with a chance to speak with an actual Muslim who is informed."
Wahhaj, imam of Al-Taqwa mosque, is a former member of the Nation of Islam and was the first Muslim to give an invocation at the House of Representatives.
Formal charges were never filed against him by White, although he did serve as a character witness for the defense in the trial of Omar Abdel-Rahman, "the blind sheik" who is now serving a life sentence for his role in plotting the 1993 WTC bombings.
In the promotional video for the Subway Project, Wahhaj is the first to speak. "Every day in this city, some 4.9 million people ride the subways - that is a lot of people," he says. "Imagine them seeing the word Islam. Imagine them seeing the word Muhammad."
